Happy holidays to everyone.
I was perusing the international news today and was struck by the incompatibility between the Season and the goings-on in the world,
and I wrote the following brief thoughts out, which I lay before you with rigorous apologies to all the poets who ever lived:
A CHRISTMAS THOUGHT
TODAY I WAS LOOKING AT NEWS ALL AROUND-
I WAS LOOKING FOR GOOD NEWS; YOU KNOW WHAT I FOUND.
CLIQUES, CLANS AND CABALS COULDN'T SEEM TO GET ON,
AND THE FABRIC OF GOODWILL WAS RAGGED AND TORN.
THIS SIGHT WAS ENOUGH TO MAKE RIGHTEOUS MEN CUSS,
AND CYNICS WOULD SAY, "WELL, IT'S ALWAYS BEEN THUS".
BUT THE SEASON IS HERE WHICH SHOULD GIVE US ALL PAUSE
TO THINK OF THINGS DEEPER THAN JUST SANTY CLAUS.
OUR DIFFERANCES NEED NOT MAKE ALL OUR BRAINS SPASTIC,
THEY'RE REALLY WHAT MAKES EACH UNIQUE GROUP FANTASTIC.
IF ALL WERE ALIKE, WHAT A DULL WORLD IT'D BE,
LIKE ONLY ONE COLOR, OR ONE KIND OF TREE.
SO I TOOK FROM THE NEWSROOM MY THOUGHT FOR THE NIGHT:
TEACH TOLERANCE; THE DARKNESS WILL FALL TO THE LIGHT.
